Dress Code Guide

Nowadays, it’s very common to be invited to events that have a specific dress code. Our goal is to help you know exactly what to wear for each occasion, so there’s no stress or confusion. Here’s a brief guide to the most common dress codes:

White Tie

Let’s start with the most elegant dress code. White tie represents the highest level of elegance — the very peak of formal wear. Men are strictly required to wear a tailcoat with matching trousers, a white stiff-front shirt with a wing collar, a white waistcoat, and a white bow tie. This attire is expected only at the most exclusive events. To feel comfortable (and to be admitted at all), we strongly recommend taking this dress code seriously. Footwear must be black patent leather shoes. A white pocket square and a cufflink shirt are highly recommended.

Black Tie

Compared to white tie, this dress code is slightly less formal, yet still very elegant. We highly recommend acquiring a black tuxedo, a white double-cuff shirt, and a black bow tie — hence the name “black tie,” similar to white tie. As an accessory, wear a white pocket square in addition to the bow tie. Patent leather shoes are also acceptable here.

Semi-Formal / Business Formal

A suit is mandatory and may be navy blue, black, or dark grey. A white shirt is a safe choice, but striped or checked patterns can also add character. When it comes to ties, blue, grey, and black are the base colours, but don’t be afraid to be creative — mix shades of blue and grey with stripes, polka dots, or paisley patterns. A simply folded white pocket square works perfectly, though coloured options are also suitable depending on the occasion.

Informal

This dress code is more relaxed than business formal, but wearing a suit and a tie is still required. We strongly recommend a pocket square that harmonises with the colours of the outfit. Leather shoes are essential here as well, just like with business formal attire.

Business Casual

Don’t be misled by the word “casual.” While this dress code is more relaxed than the previous ones, it should still be taken seriously. The key element is the absence of a tie, which gives the outfit its relaxed character. You can wear a sports jacket with tailored trousers and a colour-coordinated shirt. Add a pocket square for a more refined look. The goal is a professional appearance in a slightly more relaxed form.

Smart Casual

More relaxed than business casual, yet it is still advisable to avoid jeans whenever possible. A well-chosen sports jacket paired with tailored trousers or chinos is a perfect combination. It can be worn with a shirt, polo shirt, or sweater. Don’t be afraid to use colours, while keeping in mind the rule of three (no more than three colours in one outfit). As accessories, a pocket square or even a bracelet can be added.

We hope that with the help of this guide, you no longer feel uncertain about invitations to special events — in fact, we hope you feel confident and well-prepared.
