How does a men’s tailor work?

How does a men’s tailor work? A question every stylish man asks himself – at least once. What really happens behind the scenes of a tailoring house When we look into the window of a bespoke tailoring shop, we often see guests browsing, chatting, while the men’s tailor takes measurements. But what happens beyond that? Now I will share with you the process that leads to the creation of your dream suit. Join me, and the mystery will be revealed!

A good men’s tailor doesn’t work with a needle alone

You may have already read about the process of bespoke suit tailoring on our blog, so I won’t go into full detail here. What I would like to share, however, is what our first meeting consists of and how we lay the foundation of a relationship that will ultimately result in a beautiful garment made just for you. I enjoy conversation — I don’t hide that. I believe that a good men’s tailor doesn’t work with a needle alone. Communication is one of the most important things in the world: it allows us to build connections, express our feelings, and exchange ideas. The same applies in our tailoring house: in order to bring your vision to life, I first need to get to know you. I can only turn a dream into reality if I know exactly what you have in mind and what you desire. These are usually the questions that come up: • What kind of event is the garment for? • Are you getting married? • Or have you received an invitation to a special evening?

A good men’s tailor offers an experience, not just a suit

No matter the occasion, I want to understand exactly what brought you into our shop. It is very important to me to advise you in a way that also takes the coming years into account. Even if you are specifically looking for a wedding suit, I will aim to ensure that in colour and fabric, it becomes a versatile piece in your wardrobe. Of course, the final decision is yours — but you can be sure that my goal is for you to wear the finished suit not just on one occasion. Why would you? Wearing a made-to-measure suit is an experience that would be a shame to limit to a single event. Every element of a bespoke suit is tailored to your individual physique, based on precise measurements — resulting in a comfortable, elegant, high-quality garment. Such a custom suit is truly unique; only one is ever made. It is also important for me to know whether you are physically active, and if so, what kind of sport you practice. We need to understand what changes might occur in your body shape in the coming months or even years. I should also mention that we always leave an extra size allowance in our suits, allowing for future adjustments. If you return within a year for alterations, we provide this service free of charge as part of our offering.

From conversation to a made-to-measure suit

The suits made in our workshop are not ready-to-wear garments that we later alter. Unfortunately, many places advertise this method as tailoring — but for us, such an approach is unacceptable. Even with the best intentions, that would only be suit alteration. That is not how we work. In our tailoring house, only suits and shirts are created that are 100% bespoke pieces. First, we simply sit down and talk with our clients over a good cup of coffee. Then we move on to taking measurements. Measurement is a crucial part of the process. This is how we ensure that the finished suit is truly unique. Thanks to many years of experience, you can be confident that every part of your suit is crafted precisely according to your measurements — exclusively for you. Once measurements are complete, we select fabrics together from the legendary collection of the Dress ME and YOU tailoring house. What makes it legendary? With us, you don’t choose from ten or a hundred fabrics — we offer more than 6,500 suit and shirt fabrics. Our fabric selection is continuously expanding. Currently, clients can choose from 3,400 types of cashmere fabrics and more than 3,200 types of shirting fabrics. This truly is an exceptional range — you will see. Naturally, we assist you in the selection, explaining what to expect from each fabric and how different textiles can be combined. Visit our shop in person, where in addition to suits you will find a wide selection of accessories — from pocket squares to ties and cufflinks. We are happy to help you choose even the smallest details through personal style consultation. BOOK AN APPOINTMENT HERE in our tailoring house.
